#LAWTAKE - AEW DYNAMITE 4/10/24

It’s another Wednesday night so you know what that means! It’s the Dynamite Law Take right here, right now on the Ringside Club. Whether you have caught the show live or not, let this breakdown catch you up to speed through the eyes of Chad Law of the RSC.

  • Of all the things I came to like about this show, I would have to say the new opening theme and video package is very crisp and refreshing.

  • Samoa Joe starts Dynamite by trying to close the story of Dustin Rhodes trying to become a World Champion. This is like the Sam’s Club version of WrestleMania Night 2.

  • Swerve intercepted the opening minutes of Joe’s entrance and put him through a table because quite frankly anything will add some type of excitement to this upcoming match.

  • After pivoting to a promo package of Trent bazooka knee-dropping Pockets last week on Dynamite, we now head into our TNT Title Match/Cope-Open, Copeland vs Penta for the first time!

  • I was intrigued by seeing the contrast of styles with these two, like most of us at home and in attendance. For the most part, I imagined Copeland selling heavy to the barrage of Penta moves not used to being given, before coming from outta nowhere with a victory.

  • That is exactly what happened. Plus, on-screen drawings from our EVP’s most likely to show some type of play-by-play for the moves like a Sports show? No idea what I was just watching,

  • Penta continues to pile up the L’s until Fenix is in the clear to tag again.

  • Another week, another loud groan at the black out entrance of a House of Black member. If anything, Copeland facing House of Bleh members one on one till the PPV will be FUN. Copeland vs Brody and then Buddy? Yes boy!

  • I like seeing Copeland’s Spear being protected as a serious match ender.

  • Willow continues to be the QUEEN of post-match run-ins in AEW, trying to stop Julia Hart from spewing mist in Cope’s face. Instead, Willow would be on a somewhat receiving end of the Mist but only by just a little bit. Further more, please get rid of the mist. I hate mist in wrestling. This isn’t Japan, you’re not all that spooky - CUT THE SHIT!

  • Copeland/Willow vs Julia/Malaki in a intergender match at the Dynasty PPV prolongs singles matches & title matches while adding much more intrigue with a quality match.. much than a six man with HoB and Kingston/Cope/Briscoe would but I digress.

  • Why is Jericho still on camera every week with Hook? Why? Why??? Why is the Jerichoverse still a thing? Please make it stop!!!

  • Briscoe & Kingston are beefing yet on the same team. Whatever.

  • Glad my first thoughts from the Willow/Copeland pairing really turned into said match next week on Dynamite. This was followed by Copeland having a rushed and out of breath convo with Briscoe. This was a mess.

  • Speaking of a mess, it’s time for the Bucks to roll the footage from All In 2023 that showed CM Punk and Jack Perry getting into a tussle. This all just ended up with CM Punk chants on Dynamite. Anything for the ratings.

  • This brought FTR out to cut the 1,005th passionate, blood, sweat & tears promo on their competition. I’m going out on a limb here to say I miss heel FTR.

  • Lets hope Will Ospreay and Danielson go face to face for more than 10 seconds on the last show before Dynasty.

  • Ospreay cuts his first WWE-pot shot promo to jab back at Triple H for his comments about wrestlers not being about “the grind” when choosing not to sign with WWE. Whether it was a direct shot at Will or not, this wasn’t necessary. Renee’s reaction says it all after that comment about the grinding. I’ll leave it at that for this segment.

  • Hook being stuck in the Jerichoverse makes me miss when Jericho had a faction. What a time I’m in.

  • Shibata in a match means it’s a high percentage chance he won’t be on the winning side.

  • Shane Taylor Promotions might actually be on the way to a push on mainstream television. I can live with this bright spot.

  • If the Jerichoverse is the only way Shane Taylor and Lee Moriarty can get airtime weekly, through singles and tag matches.. I guess I’m in.

  • Okada received a helluva reaction in West Virginia against a random jobber. He looked like he didn’t even wanna be there by the end of that Rainmaker/pinning sequence.

  • Okada with the most authentic shrug look in the business. I forget he can actually speak solid English and that adds more enjoyment to the character for me.

  • PAC is here to meet Okada’s mouth with some fists. A hysterical run down to the ring from the EVP’s stops PAC in his tracks, only for FTR to show up and even the odds.

  • Being upstaged by the New Elite won’t sit well with FTR and PAC, so I see an inevitable six man tag on Collision or Dynamite to suffice. I’m here for this. Probably one of my brightest spots of this whole show.

  • Jay White is here! Yes! Just when I was wondering where on earth he was, we just get a backstage promo about his upcoming match on Rampage. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

  • No more of this Trios Title feud. No more of the ROH Trios Title. Please let Jay White be Jay White.

  • Toni Storm & Thunder Rosa is refreshing to see since it’s been almost two years since they last connected. A brief segment but it accomplished enough while making Thunder look like a chump. I expect some revenge from Thunder Rosa.. on Collision.

  • Deonna Purrazzo makes a delayed save, purposely I’m sure. I can see her facing Mariah May on Zero Hour (crazy) or sandwiched between the third/fourth match of the Dynasty card.

  • Mariah May & Ana Jay was actually solid. Mariah May’s push is pushing. Slowly taking their time with whatever becomes of her inevitable split with Toni.

  • Ana Jay is one of the bright spots of the burgeoning Women’s division, from the IWC and those in attendance. She should be in NXT. But for now, I hope she gets more wins. Perhaps a detour to ROH to carve her niche in the new Women’s TV division. 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • Ana Jay & Mariah Jay going Hip-Attack-For-Hip-Attack would have been too hot of a sequence had it successfully happened.

  • I legitimately only know of Mina Shirakawa because I watched this past ROH PPV where she competed in a Six Woman Joshi tag that ended with Mariah May coming out to celebrate with her, carrying flute glasses and a bottle of champagne. Oh and this ended with a kiss.

  • For those unfamiliar like myself, this is a STARDOM reunion.

  • Taz and most of the crowd were entirely confused with the Mina/Mariah champagne/kiss segment but truly that was a bright spot on a rather blah show if we’re talking creative and enticing. At least Mina is just as enjoyable to view as Mariah. More Mina, More Mariah. More Mina, More Mariah.

  • Mercedes Moneeeee promos have to stop at some point. They sound highly facetious. Unnatural. We just want her to wrestle. She’s already better served as a heel but until she does ANYTHING then we are being fed cringe babyface promos. Can we answer why we have to wait until DoN in May to see her wrestle without having to assume it’s apart of her recovery process?

  • Lights out, Mercedes is getting attacked. Lights back on, Mercedes is sprawled out making seductive groans as the camera quickly cuts out.

  • We could be lead to believe it was Julia and Skye that did the attack, my money is on Statlander. An even nastier +4000 prop is Mercedes staged this herself WITH the aid of Statlander. How’s that for long-term storytelling my pals?

  • A main event 20 years in the making - Samoa Joe vs Dustin Rhodes.

  • For one… Dustin made sure to provide as much color as possible to make up for Cody not even taking as much as a paper cut this whole weekend.

  • I wonder if Cody & the family were glued to this match just as much as the entire wrestling community was for his match on Sunday.

  • In all, all, all seriousness, why is Dustin Rhodes in this match? Other than the obvious wink and nod to the Rhodes family for having a helluva week, this was Dustin’s chance to get his shot at a World Title and win one for the memory of Dusty Rhodes.

  • In all my time of being a wrestling fanatic, I can count on finger the amount of times I’ve ever watched Dustin Rhodes compete in a World Title match. Perhaps it’s happened on a throwaway early days episode of NWA-TNA or AEW, but it must not have been memorable enough.

  • For the sake of an eliminator match, I would not have minded Dustin getting the feel-good pin just to SWERVE everyone.

  • Swerve showed up and just attacked Joe again after Joe sent Dustin packing. Swerve stared Joe down while Nana held the AEW World Title and danced. The end.

  • The more the shows go on and on, if Swerve doesn’t win at Dynasty I can see him having a Jay White-like Summer. Take that for what you will.

  • I’m all in on Swerve winning the belt from Samoa Joe. For now I’ll stay in that delusional land until we are 30 seconds removed from the PPV’s conclusion.

  • 6/10 Dynamite for me. My high points being the Women’s Title segments, the World Title match, Mariah May & Ana Jay’s segment, a smidge of Copeland’s TNT Title match & a whole lot Okada’s squash & beatdown.
