#LAWTAKE - AEW DYNAMITE 3/27/24

It’s Wednesday night so you know what that means; it’s time for a #LawTake from yours truly Chad Law of the RSC. Sit back, relax & enjoy the reading of my AEW Dynamite review.

  • After two weeks of starting this program with Mercedes Mone promos, AEW’s newest addition Will Ospreay opens to a thunderous ovation from the Canadian crowd. How he is still aligned with the Don Callis Family still boggles me.

  • Shibata was the next person to look like a stud across from Ospreay in a quality, hard hitting 10 minute wrestling match. He slowed Will down for a change, turning this into a tit-for-tat maneuver style of match.

  • Seven years in the making (for the particular sector that does care about that fact), this rematch delivered to me.

  • Ospreay is so crisp with his maneuvers and executions. By default, anyone that wrestles him will look better even in defeat.

  • You’ll care about that person a little more just off the fact that if you don’t see them for a while after the loss, you can see them again and go “oh yes he had a killer match against Will Ospreay last I saw him.”

  • Will we ever see more in-person interactions with Ospreay & Danielson? Right now I believe we are sitting at under 1.5 cumulative face to faces. A feud based on how much better in Japan I was than you essentially.

  • Given we’re still weeks away from Dynasty, I will to give the benefit of the doubt that we still can have more interactions between the two.

  • When the Ferrari pulls up - you know what that means! Okada Rhodes is hopping out with the Continental Breakfast Championship.

  • Okada is still very cool as fuck.

  • Sidebar - where’s Jay White???

  • That Young Bucks/Private Party match…. went. The EVP’s gear is ATROCIOUS. What in the hell are they wearing? This is Baron Corbin levels of cheesy.

  • Private Party got a chance to shine for their rare Wednesday TV appearance in a heavy flip-fest that should hopefully define them as a babyface team and not the too-cool tweener role they were trying to go into.

  • Darby Allin still being shown is a good thing. Keep him in the eyes and ears of the fans. He will heal up and return to feud with Jay White sooner than later. If anyone could pivot from not being able to climb MOUNT FUCKING EVEREST, it’s Darby Allin.

  • WHAT THE GREEDY MOTHERFUDGE CAKES was that Jericho/Hook segment? What??? Why is Jericho still a recurring character on this program? Send this to Rampage! At least he’s a commentator there.

  • A feud/bond built on two guys who know who the other are. Alright yo.

  • Two weeks in and Mercedes Moné is already doing more things I rather her not be doing (cutting Prom Queen speech promos & doing commentary) as opposed to.. ya know.. wrestling.

  • She’s still hid the specific injury from the masses that aren’t on the internet, so the allure of WHEN Mercedes will wrestle is heavy in the air.

  • I’m digging the TBS Title having more emphasis and depth than the Women’s Title during all of this Mercedes inclusion.

  • Talk about sink or swim when it comes to Toni Storm and whatever revolving door she’s about to have with Deonna & Thunder Rosario.

  • Statlander is turning heel eventually. At Dynasty? Seeing as she was nowhere in sight for Ana Jay (making her own rare Dynamite cameo) taking the pinfall from Willow’s Doctor Bomb.

  • If this means Mercedes saves Willow from Stat’s heel turn, with Mercedes having none to one tune-up match at said Dynasty PPV, this would prolong the inevitable Mercedes/Willow match whether Willow wins the TBS Title or not.

  • Willow has to win that TBS Title. She has the momentum right now. Julia isn’t as sizzling as she was when she initially lead up to, and then won the belt.

  • More heel women isn’t what I want in AEW either. I’ll leave that there. Willow is the superb babyface and needs to be pushed as such if this is the case.

  • Dustin Rhodes is gonna get a Canadian Destroyer and the snappiest Power Slam out at least 1-2 times a month. Dustin vs The Butcher on Rampage! Word…

  • Toni Storm had all of less than 120 seconds of television time tonight. Not to promote a feud, a challenger, anyone. Just hit the catchphrase in black & white then leave. RE: my diatribe on the TBS Title picture.

  • Swerve having premade promos >>>> Swerve cutting live promos.

  • Best Friends are the number one ranked tag team in AEW. Yes, that’s the sense the NEW, UPDATED rankings have brought to light.

  • Undisputed Kingdom are the ROH Tag Team champions & nobody may even notice that.

  • Can anyone on AEW commentary please make light as to why outside of the ring announcer saying (_____) is a ROH champion, nobody wants to plug anything else that might make people want to check out ROH programming OR anyone in contention for said belts?

  • These were the same belts that were the focal point of the opening match on AEW’s biggest PPV to date at Wembley and now they are a lifeless carcass.

  • With that said, Trent & Pockets made light work of Taven & Bennett while AEW continues to remind us that the Devil storyline was by far up there with Top 5 Worst AEW moments next to the delayed explosions with Kingston/Moxley.

  • Kyle O’Reilly and these awkward teenage promos is just… yeah. There. To remind us Kyle O’Reilly is back.. still without merch & just happy to have a huge victory over Bryan Keith (who currently might have quadruple the losses than wins since becoming All Elite).

  • He’s gonna win & he’s gonna do it on his own. Not even a Kyle O’Reilly heel turn could savage the Undisputed Dipshits from these Icelandic lake levels of cold.

  • The Copeland post-match-YouTube promo that aired this week just means Copeland prefers to work Saturdays.

  • The Cope Open is back baybay. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to see who steps up on Saturday. It’s Adam Copeland, a champion, the TNT champion, & he’s got a clean slate of NEVER WRESTLING 85% OF THE CURRENT ROSTER.

  • Does Takeshita step up? Hobbs, Jay White? Matt Sydal? Kip Sabian? Anyone but Daniel Garcia at this particular moment? Anyone from the newly updated rankings?

  • Swerve vs Takeshita was AEW going back to the roots of WRESTLING - with the open and the close. Prime spots from 2 (arguably 3) of the best bright spots this company has in terms of star power, crowd reaction & overall wrestling.

  • Win or lose, Takeshita is on such a streak of greatness right now. It’s like if Okada never came in, Takeshita would fill that role well.

  • Poisionramas, Blue Thunder Bombs, a “Holy Shit” change, all the bells and whistles you could expect with a Junkyard Dog Swerve match at this point of 2024. I really did enjoy this match. The perfect pace with subtle yet meaningful false finishes. Shit the JML Driver actually finished a match!

  • Samoa Joe doesn’t need to say much to get his point across while lookinglike an angry patron storming out of a Greek restaurant on Steinway Blvd in Queens, New York.

  • Swerve vs Samoa Joe at Dynasty seems so soon yet so far away. I know we have some more personal digs and attempts from Swerve mixed with some shakey promo time coupled in with quality tune-up matches against 1/2 of whatever tag team AEW isn’t using at the moment.

  • I hope this is the silent end to the Mogul Embassy as Swerve embarks on this main event face journey. Brian Cage & the other two fellas just don’t need to be a distraction or a confusion as to should we be behind Swerve ⏸️ and still cheer the heel faction that trails behind him?

  • The only way to salvage Mogul Embassy as of now is to have Joe slaughter them in week by week matches on Dynamite and Collision. How is anyone forgetting Swerve had HEAVY hands as allies that can aid him in his quest to be World Champion? If he’s going to do this, he might as well use the people around him! It’s an Embassy for crying out loud.

  • If the trios won’t go, I wish the chain around his neck would. He has on a fur coat with a chain around his neck that’s not blinged out. That is not steez.

  • I give this Dynamite a 7.5/10. Thank you TK for the quality wrestling shown that actually feel as though have culminating storylines, while also giving us clunky wrestler backstage promos that all feel like their leading to a lot of underwhelming nothing.
